Mary, a Motherly Figure

As we celebrate Mother's Day, it's an opportunity to celebrate our Mother Mary.

Ever since I was little, I told my mom and my grandma I had three moms:

  1. Virgin Mary
  2. My mom
  3. My grandma

The first place being the Virgin Mary. To this day, it's something they know I stay true to.

The Virgin Mary has always played a big role in my life, and getting older hasn't decreased my appreciation for her.

A few months ago, my mom filmed a video in Spanish speaking about the Virgin Mary. In it, she read a brief section of a book where the Virgin Mary is described as having a face like that of a porcelain doll, a slight smile, and open arms ready to embrace us and hold us near her heart.

It was a strikingly beautiful description and one that correlates with how I've always seen her. Anytime I look at an image of the Virgin Mary, I always look at her face—the purity, the softness, the peace that she embodies.

The gentleness with which the Virgin Mary is depicted is striking.

Her role in the Catholic faith is one of veneration as an intermediary to God. The way my mom phrased it explains the dynamic fairly well:

In a nuclear family, when a child might want something, they might go to dad first, and he will say, "No" or "Ask your mother, and we'll do as she says." Alternatively, the child might also opt to go to mom first to ask for her help to plan how to convince dad. It becomes a team effort if the child can build a case as to why this would be good from him/her.

Mothers often act as a voice of empathy and concern. They help find a peaceful path towards our happiness. And the Virgin Mary is no exception. She advocates for us, for our desires, and well-being.

Yes, we ask our Father directly, but asking for a little extra support from Mom never hurts ♡
